While deep-learning algorithms have surpassed human accuracy in visual recognition tasks, their inflexibility and lack of efficiency in generic ecological tasks differentiate them from biological visual systems. In this study, the VGG Convolutional Neural Network was retrained on two independent tasks: detecting an animal and detecting an artifact. The results showed human-like performance levels and unexpected behavioral observations, such as robustness to rotations and grayscale transformations. Interestingly, combining the outputs of the two models resulted in superior accuracy, implying that the presence of artifacts reduces the presence of animals in photographs. Furthermore, the study showed that a few layers could achieve a good accuracy for ultra-fast categorization, challenging the belief that deep sequential analysis of visual objects is required for image recognition.

One of the goals of the summit is to agree on an international framework that ensures the safe and reliable development and use of AI. The UK government will also announce an increase in the number of scholarships for students undertaking postgraduate study and research in STEM subjects at UK and US universities.
Dr. Stephen Wolfram, creator of Mathematica and the Wolfram Language, and Dr. Chowdhury, founder of Parity Consulting and a Responsible AI Fellow at Harvard, spoke on computational thinking and responsible AI at a recent conference. Dr. Wolfram discussed the importance of computational language in bridging the capabilities of computation and human objectives, while Dr. Chowdhury focused on applied algorithmic ethics and creating solutions for ethical, explainable, and transparent AI. Dr. Rackauckas, a Research Affiliate at MIT and Lead Developer of JuliaSim, discussed the integration of domain models with artificial intelligence techniques in Scientific Machine Learning (SciML).
Pi Wars is a popular non-destructive robotics competition that features autonomous and remote-controlled challenges.
